NOTE: This month’s presentation will be held online. Zoom login information below. Our in-person meetings will likely resume in September. Check your  newsletter or this space for more info.

For our final Zoom-only monthly meeting, we will hear from Miguel Chazaro Basañez, an international authority on the agaves of Mexico, and author or co-author of numerous articles and the the 2007 book “Agaves del Occidente de Mexico” (Agaves of Western Mexico).

Miguel has an Agave and an Echeveria named in his honor (Agave chazaroi, from northwest of Guadalajara, and Echeveria chazaroi, from western Oaxaca). After a long career as a botany professor at the University of Guadalajara, he has returned to his native state of Veracruz, where he continues to do field work.

In this talk we will see some of his recent work on the Agaves of Eastern Mexico, mostly in the state of Veracruz, including several new species.
