With Ernst van Jaarsveldt
Tuesday, September 20, 2022 – 7:00 pm Pacific Time
NOTE: Members and visitors can attend in person in San Francisco, or watch on Zoom.
Program Description
Many parts of South Africa are difficult to reach by vehicle or foot. This month’s presentation by South African researcher Ernst van Jaarsveld – long associated with the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town – will focus on the botanical exploration of various rivers by rubber canoes.
Ernst has published monographs on Gasteria, Tylecodon & Cotyledon, and Plectranthus, and is recognized as an expert on Aizoaceae and Aloe among other plant groups. His PhD dissertation on cliff-dwelling succulents is particularly relevant to this talk. Since retiring from Kirstenbosch, he’s taken charge of the conservatory at Babylonstoren, a working farm and tourist oasis.
Ernst will be addressing the in-person audience at the San Francisco County Fair Building via Zoom from South Africa.
For the show and tell table this month, bring Parodia, Notocactus, and Wigginsia on the cactus side, Crassula on the succulent side, or anything else you might think of that deserves its chance to shine.
This month’s featured grower is Carl Frederick
There will be no shared snack table this month, but you can bring your own.
Current SF Covid requirements for our venue: Masks and vaccination recommended. We will keep doors open to ensure adequate ventilation.
