“A Review of the Mesambryanthemaceae based on his book Vygies” – Ernst van Jaarsveld

Dr Ernst van Jaarsveld, will present a review of the variety of Mesembryanthemaceae based up his book “Vygies”, jointly authored in 2000 with Dr U. de V. Pienaar.

Mesembryanthemaceae (as he uses the term) is southern Africa’s largest succulent plant family and members range in size from dwarf species such as Conophytum achabense, just a few mm high, to large shrubs 3 m tall (Stoeberia arborea).

Ernst is a horticulturist and botanist, who for the past seven years (since retirement from Kirstenbosch Gardens) has managed the succulent collection at the Babylonstoren Farm, a resort with a hotel, restaurants and gardens focused mainly on plants indigenous to southern Africa.
